VIXElab (Visualization, Interfaces, and emerging eXpEriences Lab) is a research laboratory based at the Centro de Informática of the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (Brazil). It investigates how data visualization, human-computer interaction, and emerging technologies can foster social and environmental transformation. Rooted in the Global South, VIXE combines scientific rigor with creative and critical approaches to design technologies that are responsible, inclusive, and sustainable. Its work spans from visual analytics and data literacy to tangible and off-screen visualizations, promoting care for humans and more-than-humans. Guided by values of sustainability, social justice, interdisciplinarity, and ethical innovation, the lab seeks to bridge local knowledge and global collaboration to reimagine the future of technology.

This area investigates how design and technology can be ethical, critical, and environmentally sustainable. It explores off-screen and tangible visualizations made with ecological or biodegradable materials, addressing the environmental footprint of digital systems and the ethical use of artificial intelligence. The goal is to foster innovation grounded in transparency, responsibility, and care for people and the planet.
Urban and Spatiotemporal Visual Analysis
This area develops methods and interactive systems to understand how cities and societies change over time and space. By integrating geographical, temporal, and three-dimensional data, it supports decision-making in urban planning, mobility, energy, and environmental management. Its research reveals social and ecological patterns that help reimagine sustainable urban futures.
Data Literacy and Communication
This area promotes critical and inclusive ways of reading, creating, and communicating data. It explores how data can represent people, places, and everyday experiences through visual storytelling, data journalism, and accessible dashboards. This area investigates how interactive and analytical technologies can foster care for people, communities, territories, and ecosystems.
